Inventions By African Americans Exhibit At Central High School
In February 2017, to celebrate Black History Month and to promote local museums, the Tavern Museum, the J. C. Graves Museum, and New Mount Zion Baptist Church sponsored an exhibit of inventions by African-Americans in the entrance hall of Central High School at King and Queen Court House. Museum Council members and volunteers Nannie Taylor, Ellen White, and Alice Sheley prepared the exhibit using information and artifacts from the J. C. Graves Museum. The creations of over ten inventors were recognized and many became familiar everyday items: portable scale, fountain pen, door knob, ice cream scoop, egg beater, spark plug, golf tee and many more. Visit the J. C. Graves Museum for more details and to view these artifacts.
