Fossil Hunt
This fall (2017) long time fossil hunter, Newell Randall, led a group on a fossil hunt in King and Queen County to document a video segment for “Hidden Mysteries” produced by ABC Channel 8 News in Richmond. He was joined by reporter Amy Lacy, videographer Forrest Shelor, land owner Ricky Gwathmey, and Museum Council member and photographer Alice Sheley. Their objective was to locate sharks teeth. It was an ideal day and the hunt was quite successful. Look for an upcoming announcement regarding the availability of the “Hidden Mysteries” segment.
Mr.Randall’s collection of fossils can be viewed at the Museum. The Museum is inviting educators in multiple counties to integrate into their curriculum a presentation of fossils at the Museum or in the classroom. Mr. Randall’s enthusiasm, knowledge and storytelling ability will hold each student’s interest and inspire further investigation. His story of finding part of a megalodon tooth that perfectly matches the other half found years before fascinates listeners of all ages. Mr. Randall is also available for presentations to groups and may be contacted via this website.
